REDD+ Social Safeguards Lead in East Africa

Fiona Mbabazi leads REDD+ social safeguards in East Africa and is responsible for ensuring that all WCS NbS programs comply with the CCB Standard during project design and implementation. In Uganda and Tanzania, she ensures that intervention activities are designed to avoid/reduce risks and enhance benefits for local communities, particularly rights holders, while promoting quality processes and adequate safeguards. Previously, she worked with the World Bank in Rwanda for over 8years, to ensure compliance with its environment and social standards (ESS) in multiple sectors including infrastructure, agriculture and energy. Fiona holds a BSc in environment management and a master's degree in rural development from Yonsei University, in South Korea.
