Rules & Terms
Categories
Please submit the film to ONE category only; you need to pay only one submission fee per film. Fiction and non-fiction films accepted.
Shorter festival edits of feature length films are often preferred, as the festival has limited space for entries longer than 90 minutes. However, all submissions will be considered.
REEL WILD accepts films in any genre related to wildlife and wild places, particularly in connection with pertinent issues surrounding conservation, climate change, and affected communities.
Language
Non-English language films must have embedded English subtitles.
Year Completed
We will accept films completed on January 1, 2024 or later.
Entries
All films must be submitted through FilmFreeway; the festival does not accept submissions through any other means. Passwords for private links must not expire before December 30, 2025.
Fees
Submission fees are not refundable; provided, however, that if the submitter purchases FilmFreeway’s Submission Protection service, then the terms for such service shall apply. REEL WILD does not pay any screening fees or speaking fees.
Eligibility
REEL WILD does not exclude films with prior screenings. However, the festival may prioritize submissions with an international, U.S., and/or New York area premiere status.
Films must be complete at the time of submission.
Films must be clean of all advertisements for exhibition. Please contact the REEL WILD team at reelwild@wcs.org with any questions about branded films or other advertisement-related inquiries.
Selection Status
Submitters will be contacted about selection status via FilmFreeway by January 20, 2026. Any film that has been accepted by the festival may not be withdrawn by the submitter less than 60 days before the festival commences.
Submission Fee Waiver
REEL WILD Film Festival is presented by the Wildlife Conservation Society, a not-for-profit charitable organization that has been recognized by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.
Although funding for the festival is limited, the festival expects to be able to offer a limited number of need-based submission-fee waivers to submitters for whom the submission fee presents a barrier to submission. The festival’s ability to offer submission-fee waivers is not guaranteed and will be based on the availability of funding therefore and objective criteria to be established by the festival and applied to all requests for submission-fee waivers.
For those who wish to request a submission-fee waiver due to economic hardship, please email the REEL WILD team at reelwild@wcs.org by September 30, 2025 with:
(1) A detailed description of the reason for the request for a submission-fee waiver.
(2) A 250-word (or longer) description of how the film connects with the mission of the REEL WILD Film Festival.
Any request for a submission-fee waiver that does not include the aforementioned items will not be considered.
