Makira Natural Park in northeastern Madagascar is one of the largest tropical rainforests on the planet. Now you can help protect it and fight global warming. WCS has partnered with Cool Effect, a non-profit that curates the world's premier carbon reduction projects and provides individuals with the opportunity to support them through one-time or monthly contributions.

At nearly one million acres, Makira is more than twice the size of greater London and 40 times the size of Manhattan. It's also considered one of the top five biodiversity hotspots in the world, providing vital habitat for all five of the island's emblematic but highly threatened lemur species.

It's also a tool to fight climate change. Protecting Makira, as WCS helps do through a partnership with the government and local communities, has avoided 1.5 million tons of GHG emissions since 2005—that’s equivalent to taking over 300,000 cars off the road for a year.
