WCS 2025–2030 Coral Reef Conservation Strategy

Coral reefs cover less than 1% of the ocean but sustain over 25% of marine life and hundreds of millions of people worldwide. They are also among the ecosystems most at risk from climate change – but we can save them, and prioritizing coral reefs is one of the most actionable and important conservation investments we can make.

Our 2025–2030 Coral Reef Conservation Strategy outlines a transformative plan to conserve the world’s most climate-resilient coral reefs. Building on more than 40 years of WCS science and global partnerships, the strategy centers on high integrity climate-resilient coral reefs (HICOR) - reefs with live coral cover, species diversity, and fish biomass and the ability to resist, recover, and adapt in the face of climate change.

This is our path forward: Starting now, for the oceans and communities of tomorrow.
