Maria Papadopoulos

Assistant Conservation Scientist, Ocean Giants

Maria is a Research Assistant with the Ocean Giants Program at WCS. She works on analyzing archived acoustic recordings from the WCS, WHOI and Equinor PAM program in the Equinor Wind Lease 0512 area and assessing habitat use and behavior of cetaceans in the NYB, particularly sei whales. Maria's main research interests include using cetacean bioacoustics and behavioral ecology. She is particularly interested in how different types of data can be integrated to create a more comprehensive picture of cetacean behavioral patterns. Maria completed her M.A. in Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Biology at Columbia University in the City of New York, investigating the seasonal and diel acoustic presence and vocal activity of sei whales in the New York Bight.
