Saving Wild Places
WCS focuses its on-the-ground efforts on saving important landscapes and seascapes across the globe. Our goal is to protect the premier sites that are biologically outstanding, where long-term conservation of species and ecological processes is viable. Ranging from the grasslands of Mongolia to the coral reefs of Belize, these areas encompass some of the wildest places that remain on Earth.
Since the early 1900s, WCS field research has helped to create over 100 protected areas around the world. As these areas become increasingly isolated, we are working beyond borders to ensure connectivity both within and across borders.
