River Wild

February 6, 2017

This roughly 15-day-old yellow-spotted river turtle is running to Ecuador's Napo River.

Since 2010, WCS Ecuador has been working with indigenous communities in Yasuni National Park, a moon-shaped protected area on the country's eastern border, to encourage the recovery of these turtles.

The team trains local monitors, collects eggs, incubates the eggs in sandboxes, and then releases hatchlings like this one into their natural habitat.
