Regal Rhinoceros

Regal Rhinoceros Photo
Global poaching is reaching a fever pitch, and rhinos are among the most endangered species impacted by the illegal trade for wildlife, with poachers killing them for their horns. Although good news is scant for these prehistoric-looking creatures, we are happy to house three rhinos at the Bronx Zoo, two of which recently joined our flagship facility.

The young brothers—already tipping the scales at 4,000 pounds each—are ambassadors for their wild brethren. With directed efforts to save the Sumatran rhinoceros in Asia and a host of programs in Africa, we work to sustain these incredible animals. Learn more about our work and the President of Indonesia’s recent decision to demarcate 2012 "International Year of the Rhino" here.
