Diversity of Lifestyles
Grades 5-8
This multi-session program uses the Zoo as a living laboratory for students and teachers alike. A close-up look at animals in the classroom invites students to discover animal adaptations first hand and learn that the diversity of life on Earth today is the result of natural selection occurring over a vast amount of geological time. You'll also explore zoo exhibits to investigate unique features of animals such as camels, gorillas, hornbills, and giraffes.
Teachers may enroll classes for one, two, or all three two-hour sessions.
- Animals of the Land: Students focus on zebra hooves, cheetah paws, monkey hands, and even tree frog toes as they conduct their own observations of animal movement.
- Animals of the Air: Students examine real bird feathers and bones, and receive up-close visits from birds to help study flight adaptations.
- Animals of the Water: Students will discover the great value of blubber, oily tears, counter shading, and other special adaptations for aquatic life.
Time: 2 hours/session
Fee: $250/session
