Resources and Technical Pages
Welcome to the Field Veterinary Program's technical pages on the web. We have begun compiling information for commonly asked questions regarding wildlife health issues such as equipment or instructions for procedures, importation of samples, and assorted topics related to working with wildlife around the world. We hope to continually add to these pages and welcome your suggestions and contributions. Here is a summary of what you will find in our technical pages:
Field Equipment- Typical supplies and equipment used by field veterinarians for immobilization and telemetry, as well as information on where to purchase such supplies.
Tests and Sampling- Includes proper storage guidelines for biological samples, typical tests that should be run, and permit guidelines for properly transporting biological samples taken from wild animals.
Guidelines and Papers- Includes manuals and papers, such as rehabilitation guidelines and necropsy techniques in 4 languages.
WDA Membership- The Field Vet Program is sponsoring a 1 year membership in the Wildlife Disease Association for qualified individuals. For an application, Click here.
Health reports- There is very little health data available for many free-ranging wild animal species. In this section, our vets summarize the examination and laboratory test results for some of these animals. This data may not be published formally in a journal, but it is still valuable. Reports are available for: Maned Wolf, Tayra, Oncilla - more soon!
