WCS Opens Registration for Bronx Zoo Summer Camps

Bronx, N.Y. – January 12, 2011 –The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo is now accepting summer camp registrations for the 2011 season.

Zoo camps offer a variety of animal-themed programs for children ages 5 to 17.  Young adventurers can choose the program that is the best fit for them—from the five-day Animal Kingdom or Pablo Python Looks at Animals Camps, to the Family Overnight Safari or the Summer Internship: Animal Care Program for Teens.

Working for Wildlife
Ages 8-12
If your 8 to 12 year old has a love and fascination for animals, or an interest in someday working with wildlife, this one-of-a-kind program will show them a world of possibilities. In this camp, kids will be introduced to a variety of careers in maintaining and caring for the more than 4,000 animals that call the Bronx Zoo home. A pizza party lunch is included.

Family Overnight Safari
Ages 5-Adult
After another sold-out series last year, the Bronx Zoo’s most popular family tradition returns – Family Overnight Safaris. You and your family will be treated to fun-filled activities such as Late Night at the Bronx Zoo, where you meet a variety of amazing animal guests.

Pablo Python Looks at Animals
Ages 5-7
Pablo Python introduces children to the wonderful world of animal sizes, shapes, colors, textures, patterns, locomotion, and diet. In this five-day adventure, children will go on safari to the African Plains, observe butterflies in the Butterfly Garden and ride the Bug Carousel, explore the Children’s Zoo and have up-close encounters with animals, everyday.

Animal Kingdom Camp
Ages 8-12
Campers will spend an unforgettable five days at the Bronx Zoo discovering the amazing diversity of the animal kingdom. Children will journey through Madagascar!, design their own day of zoo adventure, learn ways to protect animals and habitats and then have a chance to teach zoo visitors what they’ve learned.

Summer Internship: Animal Care Program for Teens
Ages 13-17
For many young people who have considered a career in working with animals, our summer internship is a defining experience. This three-week program introduces teens to an astounding array of wildlife-related careers and explores the theories and practices behind animal management and conservation at the Bronx Zoo.

Session 1:  July 18 - August 5
Session 2: August 8 - August 26
Times: Monday – Friday; 10 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Fee: $1,450 members; $1,600 non-members
