Celebrate American Wilderness

Celebrate American Wilderness Photo
President Obama designated September, 2012 “National Wilderness Month,” inviting “all Americans to visit and enjoy our wilderness areas...and to aid in the protection of our precious national treasures.” To commemorate this exciting development, we share a photo from one of our greatest national parks—Yellowstone.
Established in 1872, Yellowstone is our country's first national park and a World Heritage Site. WCS has been working in its rugged landscapes since the early 1900s, when we helped to restore populations of bison, and our conservationists have been committed to the park ever since. Some of our current projects involve conservation of wolverine and pronghorn antelope; we also seek to mitigate the effects of climate change to ensure that wildlife continues to freely range the open spaces of Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho.
