Yellowstone’s Rugged Traveler

Yellowstone’s Rugged Traveler Photo
For the past eight years, WCS conservationists have been studying wolverines in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Through their fieldwork, which includes setting up remote cameras to snap photos of the elusive carnivores (such as this one, taken in spring 2008), the researchers have gained a better understanding of wolverine ecology. The studies will help inform conservation strategies so that this rare species can survive. Only an estimated 250-300 wolverines remain in the “lower 48,” where they occupy about half of their former range in high alpine peaks of the western United States.
