A Pact for the Pack

A Pact for the Pack Photo
For more than a century, ranchers have waged war with wolves. The apex predators eventually landed on the Endangered Species List, earning them federal protection that helped their populations rebound. Earlier this year, Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana delisted the gray wolf. By summer’s end, more wolf hunts were underway. Still, WCS and other conservationists hope to bring peace to the Wild West. In an effort to keep both wolves and livestock safe, we are working with some ranchers to modify their animal husbandry techniques and use non-lethal deterrents, such as electric fences and scent aversions.
