Romance on the Shore Photo
It’s summertime in South America, which means breeding time for Magellanic penguins. From September through February, Patagonia’s tuxedoed seabirds congregate in colonies that sometimes number 400,000. Known for co-parenting—moms and dads take turns incubating eggs and feeding hatchlings—it’s no surprise that bonds endure. Just how long do these penguin couples stay together? We know of a pair that lasted 16 years!
