A Leopard and his Kill

A Leopard and his Kill Photo
Eight years ago, a WCS camera trap snapped an image of a leopard in India. Nearly a decade later, an Indian photographer captured an image of the same cat—this time dragging a massive gaur (Indian bison) calf through Karnataka’s Bandipur Tiger Reserve. How do we know these two magnificent cats are one and the same?

Indian conservationists track and identify predators using special computer software, and no leopard wears the same pattern of rosettes. Having already stored the image taken all those years before, researchers used the software to match it to the new photo, proving that this particular cat is a veteran of the wild.
