Season of Loons

Season of Loons Photo
For the loons of the Adirondacks, nesting season has begun. These birds spend their summer raising young on northern freshwater lakes. Built for swimming, diving, and fishing, loons come ashore mostly to mate and nest. Both males and females have striking black and white breeding plumage, as well as black bills and red eyes. Their winter plumage, by contrast, is grey and dull.

On July 21st, we're holding our 12th Annual Loon Census. For further information, visit www.wcsadirondacks.org.
