A Sandy Siesta

A Sandy Siesta Photo
At sea, southern elephant seals can hold their breath for more than two hours and dive nearly 5,000 feet below the surface. But right now it’s their breeding season, so this basking beauty is taking a long break from the sea and surf. On Argentina’s Península Valdés, she may stay onshore for months, living off her copious blubber and raising a pup or two.
