Collaring Operation

Collaring Operation Photo
Staff from WCS and South Sudan’s Ministry of Wildlife Conservation (MWCT) attach a GPS collar to an adult male elephant. The collaring operation took place in late May and early June, as part of an effort to track and monitor the majority of South Sudan’s remaining populations.

Real-time location data from the collared elephants, combined with aerial surveillance, intelligence-led enforcement, and ground patrols, will enable the MWCT and WCS to watch over the safety of the country’s remaining herds and detect and prevent poaching threats.
