Croton-to-Highlands Biodiversity Plan

Our Croton-to-Highlands partnership was established between MCA and four towns in two counties: Cortlandt, Yorktown and New Castle in Westchester County, and Putnam Valley in Putnam County. MCA conducted several years of fieldwork on breeding birds, amphibians and reptiles, then analyzed this data using our unique Focal Species Approach, to create the Croton-to-Highlands Biodiversity Plan (CHBP). The CHBP highlights the biodiversity-rich areas within the four towns, and provides both land preservation and wildlife-friendly land use planning recommendations to maintain that biodiversity. MCA's guidance to our partner towns does not end with the prodution of a report, however. We have encouraged the four towns to enter into an Intermunicipal Agreement in order to facilitate the implementation of the CHBP's recommendations. That Intermunicipal Agreement is in progress and, thus far, Cortlandt, New Castle and Putnam Valley have joined.  To download the CHBP as a .pdf file, go to our Publications page.
