Conservation Policy

The WCS Colombia Program maintains close ties with Colombia’s Ministry of the Environment and several regional environmental organizations in the Central Andes. In this way, all scientific knowledge derived from the research conducted can be properly applied to decisions on natural resource management.

Close collaboration on conservation initiatives is also maintained  with the National Parks Unit and the Humboldt Biodiversity Institute--branches of the Ministry of the Environment. The results of this collaboration can be found in the following policy documents:

  • The ecological restoration component of “The Colombian National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan”.
  • “Research Strategy for the Colombian National Parks System”.
  • “Protocol for the Design of a System of Natural Protected Areas”.
  • “The Conceptual Framework for the National Biodiversity Institute”.
  • “The National Strategy for Bird Preservation”.

WCS Colombia Program’s staff has advised government agencies, park managers and grass-roots NGOs on how to apply this information  efficiently in management plans and conservation policy.
