The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Exhibition and Graphic Arts Department (EGAD) is looking for talented, experienced and qualified individuals to join the team that creates exciting, world class, and award winning exhibits at the Bronx Zoo and New York Aquarium. WCS is the conservation organization that is a leader in innovative exhibitry, interpretation, and zoo and aquarium design.  Working primarily from the Bronx Zoo, the successful candidates will become integral to the planning, design, and production of our new exhibits in the New York area and through conservation programs worldwide demonstrating proficiency and expertise in their respective field.  Work experience related to zoos, museums, themed attractions or theater is preferred.  Positions are without benefits.  Note: The WCS/EGAD Department also offers unpaid internships of approximately 300 hours per semester in all program areas.

Architectural Designer

Responsibilities:

  • Collaboration with Director and other EGAD staff on all phases of design for major capital projects.
  • Production of conceptual drawings and layouts.
  • Management of smaller architectural projects in all WCS facilities.
  • Coordination of design work with outside design consultants and in-house clients.
  • Review of consultant design and construction drawings. Review shop drawings as necessary.
  • Collaboration with Director to develop preliminary project schedules and budgets, scopes of work  and requests for proposal.
  • Model making, exhibit detailing.
  • Research of building materials, systems and consultants as necessary.

Qualifications & skills:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Architecture.
  • 3 – 5 years experience.
  • AutoCAD 14/2000 proficient
  • Strong communication & organizational skills.
  • Experience in all phases of design.
  • Knowledge of building materials and systems.

Jr. Architectural Designer

Responsibilities:

  • Assist EGAD staff on all phases of design for major capital projects.
  • Assist architectural designers and project managers on necessary aspects of design and production for exhibit and architectural projects.

Graphic Designer & Jr. Graphic Designers*

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the project development of project design and production of new interpretive visual programming venues for bringing people closer to wildlife in powerful public exhibitions.
  • Work collaborately with interpretive programmers, graphic designers, architects, landscape architects, evaluators, and consultants on project development and production.
  • Work closely with WCS scientific staff, media, technology, education, development, and publication teams to implement project goals, programs and messages, and refine story lines, exhibit themes and content, especially regarding conservation relevance.
  • Work to meet established project schedules, budgets, and priorities for implementation.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated development and communication skills in the field of exhibit programming and graphic design, museum and or zoo design with a professional degree plus 3 years of design production or management.
  • *Jr. Graphic Designers should have 1- 2 years of experience.
  • Strong environmental graphic design expertise and proven design production ability.
  • Knowledge of new communication media, computer software and hardware, and software programs germaine to the environmental graphic design industry.
  • Awareness of material options and 3D interactive design, and currency in the field of exhibit design in high traffic uses.

NURSE 
Wildlife Conservation Society, Bronx Zoo
 
Wildlife Conservation Society at the Bronx Zoo seeks self-motivated, talented, organized professional registered nurse to provide emergency nursing care for ill or injured visitors and direct nursing care for staff occupational and non-occupational injuries and illness; conduct health education and counseling, and assist with the development and implementation of screening programs and health promotion/disease prevention programs, including but not limited to tuberculin skin testing program and CPR/first aid classes, for staff in 5 parks. SCIENTIFIC COORDINATOR
Greater Yasuní - Napo Moist Forest Landscape Program

SUMMARY: The Wildlife Conservation Society is seeking a Scientific Coordinator for its conservation program in the Greater Yasuní – Napo Moist Forest Landscape (Ecuador).  The Scientific Coordinator will spend significant part of his/her time in the field and report to the Ecuador Country Director, in the Latin America and Caribbean Program. A Ph.D. in Conservation Biology or related field, or equivalent professional experience, is required, as well as a minimum of 2 years experience in project management and administration.  Excellent spoken and written English and Spanish language skills required. This position will be for an initial two-year contract with the possibility of being extended to a long-term position.
 
REPORTS TO:  Ecuador Country Director, Latin America and Caribbean Program.
 
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Identify conservation and programmatic priorities for the Yasuní National Park and Biosphere Reserve and area of influence, consistent with WCS’ mission and vision, and in coordination with local field staff and the of WCS’ Latin America and Caribbean Program. Periodically review and revise these priorities.

Maintain close contact and consult regularly with the Ecuador Country Director about activities and accomplishments in the region.

Oversee and plan activities for projects in the area according to programmatic needs and conservation goals set by the Greater Yasuní – Napo Moist Forest Landscape Program, as well as other WCS initiatives in the area. Produce an annual work plan and assist other WCS-Ecuador staff in the process of budget preparation. Conduct annual performance evaluations of WCS field staff.

Provide the necessary technical and scientific support and guidance to the field staff, and monitor field and data processing activities, to ensure that these activities are carried out with the highest quality standards.

Generate all activity reports for the projects under his/her supervision and ensure they are carried out in satisfactory manner and according to NY guidelines and deadlines.

Translate the lessons learned in the project and elsewhere into conservation actions.

In close coordination with the Ecuador Country Director and the Ecuador Country Coordinator, play an active role in coordinating and supporting crosscutting programs and other WCSÂ’ initiatives as appropriate and necessary.

Assist in procuring financial support (fundraising) for conservation activities within the area; assist regional and country-level projects in developing proposals; maintain necessary and appropriate contacts with donors and WCSÂ’ Development Department. 

Represent WCS in science and conservation-related fora in the country and elsewhere.

Increase the institutional profile of WCS nationally and internationally and strengthen WCSÂ’ institutional ties in the area.

Participate in WCS-Ecuador, WCS Latin America Program, and institution-wide planning and other activities as requested and required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ph.D. preferable or equivalent professional experience in Conservation Biology, Wildlife Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or related field.

Minimum 2 years experience managing conservation projects.

Minimum 5 years experience in conservation in Latin America with experience in Ecuador preferred.

Knowledge of conservation issues and sociopolitical context in the region.

Excellent English and Spanish communication skills.

Excellent organizational skills.

Team-oriented and with good inter-personal skills

Commitment to the mission of the Wildlife Conservation Society.
