Congresswoman McCarthyThe Bronx Zoo-based Wildlife Conservation Society is proud to call Congresswoman McCarthy a friend. As residents of New York and friends of the zoo you may know firsthand how strong leadership in the U.S. Congress has shaped our ability to deliver quality programs to our 4 million annual visitors, including 450,000 students served.

Representative Carolyn McCarthy is a life-long resident of Mineola, New York with 30 years experience as a nurse before she was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1996. She has recently been named Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Healthy Families and Communities and will be instrumental in forming federal education policy to protect Long Island's children. Carolyn McCarthy is the first Congresswoman from Long Island and is included in Newsday's 100 Long Island Influentials as well as Congressional Quarterly's 50 Most Effective Legislators. Here are a few stories that demonstrate the impact Rep. McCarthy's leadership in Congress has had on New York and the Wildlife Conservation Society.
