About Glover’s Reef

Belize has the longest coral reef system in the Western Hemisphere and its coastal waters are a haven for sea turtles, groupers, and other marine life. Of all the reefs in the Caribbean, the 20-mile long Glover’s Reef is the most diverse, with about 850 reefs studding its deep lagoon. Together with seven protected areas that form the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System, the Glover’s Reef Marine Reserve is a designated World Heritage Site.

The Wildlife Conservation Society runs the Glover’s Reef Research Station on Middle Caye. Since opening in 1997, the Station has hosted more than 100 scientific expeditions and has served as a platform for many researchers and students. The Station’s mission is to promote long-term conservation and management of the Belize Barrier Reef complex through research, cooperative management, training, and education.
